Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who launched the ‘Annadatha Sukhibhava’ scheme for farmers on Saturday, expressed concern over the 25 per cent tariffs imposed by the United States on India. He urged the Central government to take precautionary measures, considering the potential impact on agricultural exports.
Naidu became the first Chief Minister from an NDA-ruled state to comment on the US tariffs. US President Donald Trump had announced the imposition of 25 per cent tariffs on India on Thursday, along with an undisclosed penalty related to India’s trade with Russia.
“As the US has imposed 25% tariffs on India, we must take precautions considering the impact on agricultural exports,” Naidu said during the launch of the scheme, which is part of the “Super Six” promises made by his party during the recent elections.
In a post on social media platform X, Naidu stated that his government has provided ₹7,000 each to 46,85,838 farmers in the first phase of the ‘Annadatha Sukhibhava’ scheme.
“The joy visible among the people as we fulfill the ‘Super Six’ promises given during the elections is deeply satisfying for us. Under the ‘Annadatha Sukhibhava’ scheme, we have provided ₹7,000 each to 46,85,838 farmers in the first phase,” he said.
The scheme aims to provide ₹20,000 per year to farmers in the state.
The Chief Minister also highlighted other key welfare initiatives, including ‘Thalliki Vandanam,’ ‘Deepam 2.0,’ NTR Social Security Pensions, Anna Canteens, and various services for fishermen.
“We are not implementing just one scheme, but effectively executing all programs necessary for the common people, thereby upholding the trust placed in us,” he remarked.
Naidu further announced that the free bus travel scheme for women will be launched on August 15.
“While delivering on welfare promises, we are also moving forward with investments and development programs. With the support and blessings of the people, we will launch many more beneficial initiatives in the days ahead,” the Chief Minister added.
