Lieutenant General Ko Ko Oo, Commander BSO-1 of the Myanmar Army, met Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, during his visit to Headquarters Eastern Command at Vijay Durg, Kolkata, on Friday.
According to an Army spokesperson, the visit formed part of the 7th Army-to-Army Staff Talks (AAST) between India and Myanmar. As part of his official programme, the Myanmar commander also visited New Delhi, Agra, and Gaya.
During the meeting, both senior officers discussed measures to enhance defence cooperation, particularly in the field of advanced technologies, with a focus on ensuring the security of both nations. The visiting delegation also interacted with other senior officers of Headquarters Eastern Command.
The Indian Army is supporting initiatives to strengthen the Myanmar Army’s digital training capabilities, thereby improving information management within its organisation. India is also committed to assisting Myanmar in modernising its defence infrastructure and promoting technology-driven collaboration between the two nations, the spokesperson added.
The visit has further reinforced the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two armies. The Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering strong defence ties with Myanmar, thereby contributing to regional peace and stability.
