Brake failure triggers massive pile-up on Mumbai-Pune Expressway; 1 dead, 21 injured

In a major road accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, a container trailer truck rammed into several vehicles, leaving at least one person dead and 21 others injured.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Adoshi Tunnel in Khalapur taluka of Raigad district.
Initial reports suggest that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure and crashed into another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving several others.
Around 20 vehicles, including luxury cars such as BMWs and Mercedes-Benz, were involved in the crash on the Mumbai-bound lane.
Several videos have surfaced on social media, showing the aftermath of the accident.
In one such video, volunteers are seen clearing traffic, as the incident caused a massive traffic jam on one of the country’s busiest expressways.
Another video shows several damaged vehicles lined up along the roadside.
Following the accident, the police took the truck driver into custody. However, he was not found to be under the influence of alcohol.
A case has been registered in the matter, and further investigation is underway.
