Madhya Pradesh Legislative Affairs minister Kailash Vijayvargiya courted controversy yet again by making derogatory comments against Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi, saying that the leader of the opposition has no values, as he kisses his younger sister publicly.

Vijayvargiya’s controversial statement against Rahul Gandhi has put the BJP in a corner, even as the saffron party has been carrying out an aggressive charge against the Congress and the opposition for making insulting comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, and also for posting derogatory videos about the PM and his mother.

“The Leader of Opposition kisses his younger sister publicly right on a busy Square. I want to ask if any of you has ever kissed your young daughter or sister in front of people?” Vijayvargiya said while addressing a BJP function held in memory of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay at Shajapur in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.

“This shows a lack of Indian values. Such acts depict foreign influence”, Vijayvargiya commented.

“In our culture, we do not even drink water at our sister’s house. My father used to carry his own water pot whenever he visited his married daughter at her in-laws’ village”, Vijayvargiya said.

“India will run according to Indian values and traditions. Presently, there are two kinds of ideologies in the country. One is working to strengthen the nation, while the other is its opposite,” the MP Legislative Affairs minister averred.

Vijayvargiya’s reference was in connection with the kiss that an emotionally overwhelmed Rahul Gandhi gave on the cheek of his sister Priyanka Gandhi when she had joined him during his ‘Bharat Jodo yatra’ in 2023.

This is not the first time that Kailash Vijayvargiya has made such a foot-in-the-mouth statement.

On several occasions in the past, he has made similar statements during his public speeches.

He once called girls wearing makeup and certain types of clothes, ‘Shoorpnakaha’ (Ravana’s sister). On another occasion, he said he does not like girls wearing short dresses.

In another speech in the recent past, Vijayvargiya had said that if parents do not imbibe values in their kids, then such children turn out to be ‘Sonam’. He was referring to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of Indore’s businessman, late Raja Raghuvanshi and also the main accused in Raja’s ghastly murder in Shillong during the couple’s honeymoon.

On another occasion, Vijayvargiya said in his speech that India got “kati, phati azadi on 15 August 1947” (India got slit, incomplete freedom on 15 August 1947). He went on to say, “The day will come when India becomes ‘Akhand Bharat’ again, and that day the tricolour will fly over Islamabad too”.
