The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday allowed a second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal.

The fresh post-mortem will be carried out by a team of doctors at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The high court court order came after Madhya Pradesh government submitted that it will make arrangements for the team of doctors to be constituted by the Director of AIIMS Delhi to come to Bhopal.

During the hearing, senior advocate Mringendra Singh, who appeared on behalf of Twisha’s husband, opposed the second post-mortem plea, saying it would be an insult to the health services of the state.

However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the prosecution said that the “accused has no right to oppose” and that the matter is between court and state.

“This is not dispute about integrity, this post mortem prepared by them is not under doubt. When a man loses his daughter, if he wants, for my satisfaction another doctor team also examine this, I don’t think as prosecution we oppose this,” SG Mehta argued.

In the order passed by Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh, the court said that it is of the opinion that it would be for everyone’s good that second post mortem is conducted.

“This court requests Director AIIMS New Delhi to constitute a team of experts who can come by special flight arranged by state government at the earliest. Since this order has to be communicated to Director officially, it would not be proper to fix rigid timeline. Therefore this petition be allowed with afioresaid direction to conduct post mortem by team by experts at Bhopal by team of AIIMS Delhi and submit a report to investigative agency,” the order read.

Meanwhile, during the hearing of the matter, the senior advocate appearing for Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh, submitted that his client is ready to withdraw his bail plea and surrender before the trial court.

However, the advocate urged the high court to direct the trial court to decide on his bail plea the same day.

Twisha Sharma, a model and actress by profession, was found dead at her Bhopal residence on May 12.

Her family alleged that she faced dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws. They also alleged that the first post-mortem report allegedly tried to hide the “injuries” on her body and demanded a fresh autopsy.
