The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday approved an upward revision in costs for various projects under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’, with the new estimate rising to Rs 9,026.97 crore from the initial Rs 6,213.76 crore.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav at the State Secretariat in Bhopal.
State government officials said that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 27,990 single village tap water schemes worth Rs 20,765 crore and 148 group water supply schemes worth Rs 60,786 crore have been approved in the state so far. Out of the approved 27,990 schemes, schemes for 15,947 villages have been completed, while work on 12,043 schemes is underway at various stages.
According to officials, a total of 8,358 schemes have required revision so far. Under the revision process, after detailed examination of 8,358 revised projects presented by the officials of various districts to provide functional domestic tap connections to 7 lakh rural families, the cabinet recommended a total revised cost of Rs 9,026.97 crore. The original approved cost of these schemes was Rs 6,213.76 crore.
In view of the Simhastha Kumbh to be held at Ujjain in 2028, the cabinet also granted administrative approval of Rs 371.11 crore for the construction of a 4-lane Harifatak railway crossing in Ujjain city and a new 980-metre-long railway overbridge from Harifatak square to Neelkanth Gate, under the Simhastha head.
The council of ministers also granted administrative approval of Rs 2,935.15 crore, including land acquisition, for the construction work of Indore-Ujjain Green Field (Access Control) Road.
The project will be 48.10 km long, comprising four lanes with paved shoulders and two-lane service roads on both sides. It will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) scheme.
