The Madhya Pradesh government on Friday officially handed over the investigation of the Twisha Sharma death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The State Home Department issued a notification in this regard.
MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav had assured the parents and family members of deceased Twisha Sharma of giving over the case probe to the CBI on their demand when they called on the CM a couple of days ago.
In the notification issued in this regard, the government has proposed to transfer the investigation of the case registered at Katara Hills Police Station under Sections 80 (2), 85, 3 (5) of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and Section 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, regarding the dowry death incident that occurred on May 12, 2026, to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The notification further states, “For this purpose, exercising the powers conferred under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, the Madhya Pradesh government has granted consent to extend the powers and jurisdiction of the members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment to the entire state of Madhya Pradesh for the purpose of investigating this case. Consent has also been given to investigate the crimes, abetment of crimes, and/or conspiracy related to the case.”
Former Miss Pune Twisha Sharma (33) was found dead under suspicious circumstances, allegedly by hanging, on the terrace of her in-laws’ house in the Katara Hills locality of Bhopal on the night of 12 May.
Twisha’s parents have been accusing her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, of harassing Twisha for dowry and “murdering” her.
On the other hand, Giribala Singh has been claiming that Twisha was addicted to drugs, was undergoing psychiatric treatment for her problems, and had committed suicide.
The Bhopal police have registered a case against Samarth and Giribala Singh in this regard and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death.
Samarth Singh, a criminal lawyer, is absconding. The police have announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for information on his whereabouts.
Samarth has applied for anticipatory bail in the MP High Court at Jabalpur.
Giribala Singh, presently working as the Chairperson of the Bhopal District Consumer Grievances Redressal Commission, has secured anticipatory bail from a Bhopal court.
Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said on Friday that the police will approach the Court to seek cancellation of Giribala Singh‘s anticipatory bail, as she did not appear before the police to record her statement despite three notices being served on her.
