Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Monday stated that while the BJP worked to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for all citizens to ensure equal rights and justice, the Congress party had engineered India’s partition on religious lines.
Yadav said, “If anyone bears the sin of the country’s partition, it is the Congress.”
The Chief Minister made the comments at Khandwa in MP, where he transferred a sum of Rs 3,308 crore by a single click into the bank accounts of more than 82.70 lakh farmers of the state during the ‘Balram Krishi Mahotsav’.
The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on July 21 passed the Madhya Pradesh Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2026 by voice vote, amid strong protests by the Congress.
Yadav alleged that the Congress party backed the Khilafat movement before independence and pursued politics of Hindu-Muslim divide, which eventually led to the country’s partition.
He said the state government advanced the concept of “one nation, one flag, one head and one law” by passing the UCC Bill.
He noted that the BJP’s aim is “Sab Samaan, Sabko Samman”.
The Chief Minister claimed that 76 per cent of Muslim women supported the proposed law during the public consultation process on the UCC.
During the programme, he announced that a police battalion would be established in Khandwa.
He further said that tenders for the construction of the Khandwa-Mundi road would be floated before September 15.
