Emphasising that contaminated drinking water must not be supplied to people under any circumstances, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has launched the statewide ‘Swachch Jal Abhiyan’ (Pure Water Campaign) from Bhopal.
Notably, the campaign has been launched just a few days after the reported deaths of around 17 people from drinking contaminated water of the Narmada river supplied by the Municipal Corporation through taps in households of the Bhagirathpura locality of Indore, which has been awarded for being the cleanest city of India seven years in a row.
The CM said last evening that a ‘Jal Sunwai’ system would be initiated across the state so that officials hear and resolve water-related grievances of the citizens.
He asserted that providing safe and pure drinking water to people was of utmost importance.
According to state government officials, the primary objective of the ‘Swachch Jal Abhiyan’ is to conduct comprehensive testing of drinking water quality in all urban and rural areas.
The campaign will also focus on identifying leakages in water supply systems, detecting contaminated water sources, and ensuring timely corrective measures to prevent water-borne diseases.
The campaign has been rolled out simultaneously across all urban and rural areas of the state.
