Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary (CS) Anurag Jain has become the first CS of the state to directly receive a one year extension in service, and as a result he would remain in office till August 2026.
Jain was due to retire on 31 August, but the union government approved his extension of one year. The Union Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued the orders for Jain’s extension.
MP Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav had travelled to New Delhi twice in three days, on Tuesday and Thursday. The CM had taken Anurag Jain too with him to Delhi on Tuesday, after the state cabinet meeting at Bhopal.
The CM met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the visit was being considersed a signal for the effort to get an extension for Jain.
After the CM’ visit to Delhi again on Thursday, the orders for Anurag Jain’s extension were issued late in the evening, just a few hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his Japan tour.
Anurag Jain is the first CS to directly receive a one year extension in service.
Former CS Iqbal Singh Bains is the only other CS to remain in office for an additional year after retirement, but he had received two extensions of six months each.
Anurag Jain was born on 11 August 1965 at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. He is a 1989 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre.
