On Mother’s Day, a picture emerged from the holy city of Kashi that brought tears to everyone’s eyes.
Behind this image was a daughter’s immense devotion and dedication towards her mother. Sunita, a resident of Sujabad Padav, has set an example for society. Struggling with poverty and helplessness, this daughter showed utmost perseverance in looking after her mother. Even after her mother broke her hip, Sunita cared for her day and night. Finally, after her ailing mother’s death, Sunita carried her mother’s bier barefoot and performed the last rites herself.
Sunita said that her mother’s health suddenly deteriorated on Friday. She was admitted to Kabir Chaura Hospital, where she died during treatment. There was no money even for the cremation. Social worker Aman Kabir came to her aid, posing as her brother.
Aman said that Sunita’s husband had abandoned her several years ago, and she lived with her mother in a rented house. Two years ago, her mother fell and broke her hip. After that, Sunita swept and washed utensils at people’s homes to support her mother’s treatment and the family. Sunita’s brother had passed away five years ago.
When Aman approached her for help after her mother’s death on Friday, Sunita said, “Brother, please help me with her last rites.” Seeing Sunita’s devotion to her mother, Aman’s eyes welled up with tears.
On Saturday, the funeral procession was taken out. Sunita shouldered her mother’s bier barefoot, never changing her shoulder. Upon reaching Harishchandra Ghat, she performed the last rites of her mother in accordance with all the rituals. Sunita said, “I wanted to serve my mother all my life. I dedicate my life to the one who gave birth to me. Due to poverty, I couldn’t afford proper treatment, but I could serve her.”
Aman said that even in the absence of relationships, the bond of humanity is the greatest. He fully supported Sunita’s mother in her final journey and selflessly lent his own shoulder as well.
Sunita’s selfless devotion to her mother has moved everyone.
