‘More importance needs to be given to daughters’

Ahead of the International Women's Day on March 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said more importance should be given to the country's daughtrers.

In his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi said: "The whole world celebrates 8th March as women’s day. In India, more importance needs to be given to our daughters."

He further said that the Central government's scheme for the welfare of the girl child, 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ was no longer just a government programme but has become a "campaign for social change".

Appreciating the women of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Modi congratulated India's premier space agency for successfully launching a record 104 satellites into the orbit.

"On behalf of our countrymen, I heartily congratulate the scientists at ISRO. There is major role of youth and women in ISRO’s success," he said.

On Wednesday, February 15 the space agency created a world record by successfully putting 104 satellites into orbit.

The Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) lifted off successfully with 104 satellites, including the country's earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 series, from the Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

He further applauded the Niti Aayog and Ministry of External Affairs for their efforts in bringing out innovative ideas from young scientists.

"The attraction of science for youngsters should increase. We need more and more scientists," Modi said.
