The monsoon session of the Rajasthan legislative assembly commenced on Monday with opposition and the treasury benches raising slogans, forcing Speaker Vasudev Devnani to adjourn the House till Wednesday.

After the introduction of four bills and making obituary references, the Speaker adjourned the House within 30 minutes, amid din.

As soon as the House assembled, members from the opposition benches led by LoP Tika Ram Jully trooped into the well waving placards and chanting slogans “Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod”.

Speaker Devnani took strong exception to disruption and waving of placards (in the well) and cautioned the slogan shouting members to maintain order and dignity of the House and return to their seats.

The caution remained unheard, rather the persisting slogan raising prompted many from the Treasury benches to raise counter slogans. Many ruling BJP MLAs responded with slogans like “Gaalibaaz Rahul Gandhi” and the “Gaalibaaz Congress” (Abusive Rahul Gandhi; abusive Congress).

The Speaker was compelled to harshly ask the slogan making members from treasury benches that at least they should maintain the decorum and discipline.

However, slogans shouting did not cease and the Chair was forced to ask respective Ministers to introduce the proposed Bills in the House amid pandemonium. Four Bills, including the revised Anti Conversion Bill, were introduced amid din.

The Speaker made obituary reference to pay tributes to dignitaries who passed away during inter-session.

After formalising summarily this scheduled agenda of the opening day in almost half an hour, Speaker Devnani adjourned the house until 11:00 AM on Wednesday.

Opposition members led by LoP Jully and AICC General and former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot held demonstration outside the House in the assembly premises.
