Uttar Pradesh has witnessed cooler weather conditions across the state, including the capital, due to monsoon rains.
Heavy rain lashed several districts, leading to a drop of up to four degrees Celsius in temperatures due to the active monsoon.
Despite heavy rainfall in almost all districts, the state’s cumulative rainfall during the current monsoon season has remained below normal so far.
The state has received 140.9 mm of rainfall against the normal average of 169.4 mm, marking a 17 per cent deficit.
Eastern UP has received only 113.5 mm of rainfall against the normal average of 187.7 mm, indicating a 40 per cent shortfall. In contrast, the monsoon has been generous to western UP, which has recorded 180.1 mm of rainfall against the normal average of 143.7 mm—25 per cent above normal.
According to data released by the Regional Meteorological Centre, extremely heavy rainfall is likely across the state due to active monsoon conditions. In view of this, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for several districts on Saturday. Meanwhile, a ‘Yellow Warning’ has also been issued for parts of eastern UP in view of the expected intensity of rainfall.
According to the weather forecast, temperatures are expected to drop by a further 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours due to continued monsoon activity in the state.
Record-breaking rainfall was recorded in several major cities across the state over the past 24 hours. Meerut recorded the highest rainfall at 315 mm. Muzaffarnagar district received 270.1 mm of rain, while Muzaffarnagar city recorded 213.3 mm. Haidargarh (Barabanki) and Chunar (Mirzapur) each recorded 160 mm of rainfall, while Sardhana (Meerut) received 116 mm.
According to the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely at several places in western UP and at most places in eastern UP on Saturday. The spell of rain and thunderstorms is expected to continue at some places in western UP and many places in eastern UP on July 12.
The state capital, Lucknow, witnessed intermittent rainfall from morning until night on Friday, with heavy showers in the evening. According to the Meteorological Department, 13.3 mm of rainfall had been recorded in the city by Friday evening.
