Modi to meet Macron in Paris

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet new French President Emmanuel Macron on 3 June in Paris to discuss issues of mutual interest with a view to further strengthen India-France strategic ties, it was officially announced here on Wednesday.

A press release issued by the MEA said Modi would visit Germany, Spain, Russia and France from 29 May-3 June.

Until now, there was no indication that Modi would also be visiting Paris during his week-long overseas tour. France was added to his itinerary after the French side communicated to India that the new French leader was ready to host the Indian PM.

was among the first world leaders to congratulate the 39-year-old Macron soon after he was elected as French President early this month. ‘’I look forward to working closely with President elect @ Emmanuel Macron to further strengthen India-France ties,’’ he had stated.

is confident that trade and economic ties with France will get an impetus under Macron’s leadership and the Indo-French civil nuclear deal will also start moving forward in the right earnest. The n PM will hold his annual bilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg on 1 June. This will be the first time that the -Russia annual summit will be held in Russia outside Moscow.
