Modi thanks Putin for birthday wishes, reiterates India’s full support for peaceful resolution of Ukraine conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reiterated India’s full support for peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and said he looks forward to welcoming Russian President Vladimir Putin to India later this year.

PM Modi this evening had a telephonic conversation with Russian President Putin during which the latter conveyed his greetings on the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday.

During the course of the conversation, Modi expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Putin’s wishes and enduring friendship.

In a post on X, after the phone call with Putin, PM Modi said, “Thank you, my friend, President Putin, for your phone call and warm wishes on my 75th birthday. We are committed to further strengthening our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. India is ready to make all possible contributions towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call today from the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin.”

The two leaders took stock of various issues on the bilateral agenda in the run up to 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.

“The Prime Minister conveyed that he looks forward to welcoming President Putin to India later this year. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s full support for peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict,” the PMO said in a statement.

Earlier, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the world leaders for greetings on his 75th birthday.

In a reply to the President of Guyana Dr Irfaan Ali, Modi said: “Thank you, President Ali, for your kind wishes. I am touched by your warm sentiments that reflect the deep bonds of friendship and mutual trust between India and Guyana.”

Modi, in a reply to the Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon, said, “Thank you, Prime Minister Luxon, for your warm wishes. I deeply cherish our friendship. New Zealand is an important partner in India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”

In a reply to the Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, Modi said: “Thank you, my friend, Prime Minister Albanese for your kind wishes. I look forward to further strengthening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and our close people-to-people ties.”
