The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shatrughan Sinha on Sunday came out in support of 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, who have been recommended for disqualification by Election Commission of India (EC).

Sinha, an MP from Patna, in a series of tweets said, “Politics of vendetta or politics of vested interests just don’t last long.
Don’t worry, be happy!”.

The veteran actor also said, “Hope wish & pray that you get divine justice soon, sooner the better” and added “Remember, when the going gets tough the tough get going”.

On 19 January, Election Commission of India recommended disqualification of its 20 MLAs for holding ‘profit for office’.

In its opinion which was sent to President of India Ram Nath Kovind, the poll panel suggested that the MLAs were “unconstitutionally” appointed as parliamentary secretaries to various Delhi ministers, therefore they are liable for disqualification.

Currently, AAP has 66 seats in Delhi Assembly and following the disqualification, the party will be reduced to 46 seats if the President seals the disqualification.

The ECI recommended their disqualification citing their appointed as parliamentary secretaries as “unconstitutional”.

Initially, the profit for office case was against 21 MLAs before Rajouri Garden MLA Jarnail Singh resigned from his post to contest elections against former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in 2017 state election.

On September 8, 2016, the high court had set aside the appointment of the 21 AAP MLAs as parliamentary secretaries. The court had observed that the order to appoint them as parliamentary secretaries was given without the concurrence of the then Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.
