Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta on Monday urged residents to complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process within the stipulated timelines, warning that failure to do so could result in eligible voters losing their voice in upcoming elections.

Gupta made the remarks while addressing a public gathering in Rohini to raise awareness about the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise.

Explaining the significance of the SIR drive, the Speaker stressed the importance of timely verification, cautioning that even eligible voters could lose their voting rights if they fail to complete the process before the prescribed deadlines.

He said the Special Intensive Revision involves a comprehensive door-to-door verification campaign by designated officials to remove errors from electoral rolls, register newly eligible voters, and update or correct existing voter details. Gupta urged residents to extend full cooperation to booth-level officers during the exercise to help eliminate duplicate entries and ensure the accuracy of the voter database.

Describing a clean and updated electoral roll as the “foundation of a healthy democracy,” he emphasized that public participation is essential to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

The Speaker also appealed to residents to act as ambassadors for the awareness campaign. He called upon Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), youth volunteers, and senior citizens to spread the message across their neighbourhoods and ensure that every household is informed about the revision process. He further urged people to assist neighbours and members of marginalized communities in completing the required documentation, describing it as a shared civic responsibility.

Concluding his address, Gupta reiterated that the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that no eligible citizen is excluded from the electoral rolls or deprived of the fundamental right to vote. He said every vote shapes the future of the city and the nation, and called for achieving 100 per cent voter enrolment in Rohini and across Delhi.
