Minor hockey player allegedly gang-raped in Odisha: Four including two trainers detained

Four persons including two hockey trainers were detained in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday on the charge of committing gang rape of a 15-year-old minor hockey player.

The unsavory incident that occurred on 3 July came to fore on Monday after the victim, who has been undergoing training at Jajpur Hockey stadium for the last two years, filed a police complaint.

On 3 July, the accused quartet allegedly abducted her while she was returning home from the stadium and waylaid her to a lodge where they sexually assaulted her by turn, police said.

Police registered a case under 70 (2) (gang rape), 74 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty ) 35 (2)(common intention to commit a crime) of BNS and Section- 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, said the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Sarat Patra.

The rape survivor’s statement was recorded before the district court, and legal proceedings are underway. Four persons have been detained in connection with the incident, said Jajpur SP Yash Pratap Shrimal.
