A militant was killed and a policeman injured on Monday in south Kashmir’s Tral town when militants hurled a grenade at a police station.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) S.P. Vaid said: “A terrorist, Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, died in a grenade explosion when challenged by a sentry while trying to escape from Tral police station.”

Earlier reports said militants hurled a grenade at the police station in which one police constable sustained minor injuries.

Chopan belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen separatist outfit and was in police custody.
