In a significant step to upgrade the policing infrastructure of the National Capital, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted Administrative Approval and Expenditure Sanction of Rs 653.46 crore for the implementation of 26 new infrastructure projects for the Delhi Police.
This initiative highlights the Centre’s commitment to improving the operational efficiency, living conditions, and gender sensitivity of the police force.
The approved projects include the construction of 18 modern police station buildings, seven police posts, a dedicated women’s hostel, and 180 staff quarters. These are designed to offer a well-equipped and supportive working environment for police personnel, while also enhancing residential facilities to promote their welfare and operational readiness.
Officials have stated that the projects will be implemented by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), ensuring compliance with modern construction standards and timely, efficient execution. Upon completion, the upgraded infrastructure is expected to improve police response times and service accessibility while also strengthening public trust and engagement with law enforcement agencies.
The addition of a women’s hostel represents a major step toward fostering gender-sensitive workspaces within the Delhi Police, promoting inclusivity and ensuring a safer, more supportive environment for women personnel. This initiative is part of the government’s broader vision to reinforce internal security frameworks while ensuring that law enforcement personnel work in facilities that embody professionalism and modern capabilities.
The MHA’s decision came at a time when the Delhi Police continues to navigate the city’s evolving security landscape, addressing challenges such as cybercrime and terrorism. The upgraded infrastructure will enable more effective coordination, optimized resource deployment, and boosted morale among personnel—ultimately helping to create a safer and more secure Delhi.
This initiative also reflects the government’s commitment to infrastructure reform as a cornerstone of effective policing and public service.
With these projects, the Delhi Police are set to evolve into a more modern, efficient, and citizen-centric force, ready to meet the capital’s increasing demands.
