After urging the Centre to declare a unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday asked the Army and other security agencies to provide a secure environment and hassle-free movement of people during the holy month of Ramzan.

Mufti asked the security agencies to adopt a calibrated response to various situations during Ramzan, the tourist season and Amarnath Yatra. She urged them to strictly adhere to prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ensure safety and security of general public and their properties during encounters and law and order related incidents.

Mufti in her capacity as chairperson was speaking at a meeting of the Unified Command of the Army, BSF, CRPF, intelligence agencies, J&K Police and various other agencies in Srinagar.

The meeting of the Unified Command was convened by her after her demand for unilateral ceasefire in J&K during Ramzan and the Amarnath pilgrimage was shot down by the BJP, its alliance partner in the government.

She reviewed the overall security situation in the state and took a detailed review of the security scenario, including the situation along the borders. Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta was also present.

Mufti told the security and intelligence agencies to synchronise their efforts and actions on the ground, while dealing with the challenging situations, through strict adherence to prescribed SOPs.

The Chief Minister underscored the need for engaging meaningfully with the people, particularly youth, so that they are able to gainfully contribute to the society. She stressed on increased community policing activities and enhanced outreach by the administration.
