A day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah levelled a series of allegations against former Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief hit back asking why the former alliance partner never raised the concerns in the last three years.

In a string of tweets, the 59-year-old Mufti argued in favour of the decisions taken by her government citing the Agenda of Alliance (AoA) agreed upon by the top leadership of her party and the BJP.

“Many false charges levelled against us by our former allies. Our commitment to the Agenda of Alliance, co-authored by Ram Madhav & endorsed by senior leaders like Rajnath Ji never wavered. It is sad to see them disown their own initiative & label it a ‘soft approach’,” said Mufti on Sunday.

“Status quo on Article 370, dialogue with Pakistan & Hurriyat were a part of AoA. Encouraging dialogue, withdrawing cases against stonepelters & the unilateral ceasefire were much needed measures to restore confidence on the ground. This was recognized & endorsed by BJP,” she added sending the ball in the court of the BJP, which was an alliance partner in the state government from 1 March 2015 to the imposition of Governor’s Rule on 20 June 2018.

Reacting to Shah’s claim that the PDP did not follow up on the developmental projects initiated by the Centre for the state and discriminated against Jammu and Ladakh, Mufti said, “Allegations of discrimination against Jammu & Ladakh have no basis in reality. Yes, the valley has been in turmoil for a long time & the floods of 2014 were a setback, therefore needed focused attention. But that does not mean that there was any less development elsewhere.”

The PDP chief suggested that the BJP should look into the performance of its own ministers who never raised any of the issues now highlighted during the last 3 years.

“Results on the ground for all to see. If anything they should review the performance of their own ministers, who largely represented the Jammu region if there were any such concerns, none among them either at state or central level talked about it during the last 3 years,” she said.

Mufti also said that her decisions on the Kathua rape and murder case and a series of events connected to it were aimed at providing “a sense of security to both communities”.

“Not handing over the Rasana rape & murder case to CBI,getting the pro rapist ministers removed & also issuing orders not to harass the Gujjar & Bakarwal community in the guise of anti encroachment drives were my duties as CM to provide a sense of security to both communities,” she said.

Finally, Mufti demanded to know what the BJP would do with Lal Singh, the MLA and former minister who had on Friday asked the press in Jammu-Kashmir to “draw a line” when reporting.

“After expressing concern about freedom of expression in J&K following Shujaat’s murder, their MLA, notorious & even punished for his role in the aftermath of the unfortunate Kathua case still threatens journalists belonging to the valley,so what are they going to do about him?” she asked.

At a rally in Jammu on Saturday, Shah had said that the government led by PM Modi tried to bring development in the state, something “that didn’t happen in the last 70 years”, but accused the PDP-led coalition government for not following up on the efforts.

“We had provided financial assistance for Kashmiri Pandits who were driven out of their homes 40 years ago, but PDP gave them nothing,” he said.

“A time came when Army jawan Aurangzeb was abducted and killed. An editor was murdered. India is a democracy and any editor has the independence to write anything. Stones were given in the hands of youth. The attack on army jawans and security personnel increased by the day,” he said.
