PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said India’s youth had “risen to the occasion” by defeating politics of division, while JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra termed the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation a triumph of truth and democratic resistance.
Mehbooba said, “I think it is a victory for the youth of India. I think Gandhi’s India is reclaiming its space in our country. The youth who don’t believe in division, who don’t believe in Hindu-Muslim polarisation, are reclaiming the place of the idea of India. I feel India is in safe hands now because the Indian youth have risen to the occasion. Now it is the turn of the youth of the country to take up our issues as well.”
Congratulating the country’s youth, Karra said the resignation was “self-explanatory” and amounted to an admission of the government’s failure to address the concerns of lakhs of students. He also praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for consistently raising the issues of young aspirants and standing by them throughout their democratic struggle.
“The resignation of the Union Education Minister is self-explanatory. It is nothing but an admission that the government failed despite every attempt to suppress the voice of lakhs of young Indians demanding accountability and justice. Truth has prevailed over arrogance,” Karra said.
He further remarked that this marked the Narendra Modi government’s second major climbdown before the people of India. “The first came when the government was forced to withdraw the three farm laws after the historic farmers’ movement. Today, it has once again been compelled to bow before the united voice of the nation’s youth. This is a clear reflection of the failure of a government that has repeatedly chosen confrontation over consultation.”
Karra asserted that no government, however powerful, can silence the democratic aspirations of the people for long, adding that India’s youth have demonstrated that peaceful and determined democratic resistance remains the strongest force in a democracy.
