A 28-year-old postgraduate student at the government-run medical college in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the sixth floor of the institution’s hostel.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Monday, May 18. The person has been identified as Aman Patel, a native of Jabalpur. He was pursuing an MD (Medicine) course from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tushar Singh told PTI.
“Prima facie, it appears Patel jumped from the sixth floor of the boys’ hostel in the Sanyogitaganj area at around 2 a.m. on Monday,” the senior police official said.
As of now, no eyewitness has come forward, while police has not recovered any suicide note from the spot.
The police is now questioning other students residing in the hostel as well as those who knew Patel. So far, no information has come foward suggesting that he was under stress, Singh said.
The student’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while investigators are waiting for the report to get more clarity about the death.
The official noted that police was investigating all aspects of the student’s death.
