The Maoists are preparing for their next party congress, but are yet to select the venue owing to the increase in vigil following the killing of Congress leaders and senior police officers recently in Chattisgarh and Jharkhand.
It may be mentioned here that this will be the first party congress of the Maoists after Kishenji’s death.
Politburo members Katakam Sudarshan alias Anand, Sudhakar alias Kiran and Prashant Bose alias Kishanda will be present in the two to three-day-long party congress according to the sources.
Top Maoist leaders held four meetings in Jharkhand and Odisha in the past two months.
The first meeting was held at Ranchi in Jharkhand and the rest three were held in Odisha. In Odisha, the meetings were organised at Mayurganj, Malkangiri and Koraput.
A couple of Maoist leaders from West Bengal are also expected to participate in the party congress.
"It is expected that they would select a venue either in Jharkhand or Odisha for the forthcoming party congress. But, there is no question of selecting West Bengal as a destination to hold the party congress," said a senior Intelligence Branch officer.
According to the sources’ information, the time of the party congress has not been fixed, but it can take place this year after the monsoon season.
He said that in a recent meeting the party leaders have also discussed the new tactics they may take to secure the venue.
"It is too early to assess the tactics and strength of the ultras to be engaged to ensure security of the top leaders. But, the Maoists are alert after the death of Kishenji and are making all necessary security arrangements to avoid loss of any of its senior leaders," the officer said.
It is learnt that besides focusing on the issues like strengthening their base in the areas including West Bengal where they have lost their ground, they would also discuss on the implementation of the new strategies they would take for the insurgency.
"They would form the structure comprising leaders from the top to the lower level, to implement the strategies," the officer said.
