Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday has been denied permission to attend the funeral of farmers killed in Mandsaur.

“Rahul Gandhi wanted to visit farmers’ village to take part in the funeral but administration didn't permit,” Congress General Secretary Mohan Prakash said to a news agency.

Earlier, there was more violence as farmers set vehicles on fire, prompting the administration to impose curfew in Mandsaur and withdrawing internet services.

Rahul was scheduled to visit Mandsaur where five farmers were killed in firing by security forces.

On Tuesday, Rahul lashed out at the BJP-led government for “declaring war on farmers for demanding their rights”.

“This government is at war with the farmers of our country. In BJP's new India, farmers demanding their rights get bullets in return,” Gandhi said.

After Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh farmers took to streets to protest against the Shivraj Singh government, demanding fair price to their produce and loan-waiver. However, the agitation turned violent when five peasants were killed and eight injured in the firing.

As per reports, curfew has been imposed in Mandsaur and internet services withdrawn.
