Man shoots married daughter to death for eloping with lover in MP village

In a shocking case of suspected honour killing, a man allegedly shot dead his 21-year-old married daughter, who had eloped with her lover leaving her husband a few days ago, in a village in the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh.

The police have arrested the accused father, who reportedly confessed to the cops that he committed the murder as his daughter had brought disrupe to him and the family.

According to the police, the incident occurred in village Khiriya Thapak under the jurisdiction of Mehgaon police station late Tuesday evening.

It is alleged that the accused, Munnesh Dhanuk, shot dead his daughter, Nidhi Dhanuk. in an agricultural field.

Police investigations revealed that Nidhi had been married to Devu Dhanuk of Guda Gudi ka Naka in Gwalior on 11 December 2025. The husband and wife had gone to Maharaj Bada in Gwalior on 28 December for shopping. However, Nidhi went missing and despite extensive search by her husband, in-laws, and parents, she could not be traced.

On Tuesday, Nidhi contacted her father, Munnesh, and told him that she had gone with a man from their village with whom she had been in a secret affair for some time. Enraged at that, Munnesh managed to lure Nidhi to return and meet him. When she came to the house, he took her to an agricultural field on some pretext in the evening allegedly shot her in the chest with a country-made pistol, killing her on the spot.

He then dumped Nidhi’s body in the field and returned home. After his wife informed the police that her husband had killed their daughter, a police team reached the spot on Wednesday morning and recovered the body from the field and sent it for postmortem.

According to Mehgaon SDOP Sanjay Kocha, the police took Munnesh in custody. The official said that the accused was being interrogated and further investigations are on in the matter.
