A young barber on Sunday early morning committed suicide by slitting his throat after he suspected that he has been infected by the Coronavirus.

The incident took place in the Pilakhua town of district Hapur.

In the suicide note recovered by the police, 30-year-old Sushil Kumar wrote that he is committing suicide because of being infected with Coronavirus. The police, however, is investigating the case and the claim of the deceased.

The house of the barber has been sanitized by the health department, told Dr Rekha Sharma, Chief Medical Officer of Hapur adding that the sample of the deceased barber has been sent for testing and they are taking every precaution.

Sushil had committed suicide in the wee hours on Sunday by slitting his throat. However, the matter came to the notice of the police later in the morning, said SHO of Pilakhua Mahaveer Singh. After looking at the suicide note, health officials were informed who collected the samples from the dead body after which the dead body was sent for postmortem.

Sushil was suffering from fever since the past few days and in view of his sickness, he visited a doctor in Modinagar for medical assistance. While his treatment was going on he also started having a sore throat. This created suspicion in his mind that he is probably infected by Coronavirus.

When he returned home on Saturday night, Sushil isolated himself from the family. He asked his wife and children to sleep in another room while he was upstairs. On Sunday morning when his wife went upstairs to wake him up she was shocked to find him lying dead in a pool of blood while a suicide note was there on the bed.
