West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday expressed deep anguish over the devastating floods in North Bengal, caused by heavy rainfall and excess water release from Bhutan and Sikkim.
In a message on her WhatsApp channel, Banerjee reassured the people of North Bengal that the state administration is working tirelessly to provide relief and support to those affected.
Banerjee announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the 23 people who lost their lives in the floods. Additionally, one member from each affected family will be offered a job in the Home Guard department.
The Chief Minister is closely monitoring the situation and has been in constant touch with the district administration. Party leaders and volunteers have already started relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.
Banerjee urged the people to stay calm and not fall prey to provocations. She emphasized the importance of standing together in times of crisis and working towards the greater good.
She expressed concern over the welfare of the people and assured the affected that the state government is committed to providing all necessary support and relief.
