The Special Cell of the Delhi Police today busted a module that was being handled by a Lashkar handler based in Bangladesh, averting a major untoward incident, confirmed the Additional Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Pramod Kumar Kushwaha.

Delhi Police came into action after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) alerted it about some anti-national posters pasted on pillars at the Kashmiri Gate Metro station and some nearby metro stations in the national capital on 07 February.

The Special Cell team went to Kolkata and arrested two people with the help of the local police. The two arrested have been identified as Umar Farooq and a Bangladeshi Robil Ul Islam. On interrogation, the two accused revealed that anti-India posters were put up at many places in Delhi.

The ongoing investigations further unearthed that the two arrested persons were receiving instructions from Shabbir Ahmed Lone from Bangladesh.

Notably, Shabbir Ahmed Lone was arrested in 2007 and released in 2019, after which he fled to Bangladesh. Probe revealed that Shabbir was in India for ‘fidayeen’ to kill a senior political leader. During his arrest, an AK-47 and grenades were recovered from his possession.

ACP Special Cell further informed that Shabbir reconnected with the LeT leadership and re-established his organisation to carry out terrorist activities after the release. He said, “Shabbir reassembled his men and conducted dry runs with these men. He had posters put up in various locations. He did so not just in Delhi, but also in Kolkata. On February 10th, he put up anti-India posters at several metro stations and other locations in Kolkata. He also rented a house in Kolkata…

As per initial investigations, the group aimed to take Bangladeshi nationals from Tamil Nadu back to Kolkata and then plant them in a terrorist activity. Therefore, the police team went to Tamil Nadu and, with the help of the local police, arrested six more people, all of whom are Bangladeshi nationals.
