In a major relief to National President of the Azad Samaj Party Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’, Allahabad High Court on Friday cancelled Saharanpur Court’s order rejecting his discharge application.

The high court now sent the case back to the Saharanpur Court for a fresh decision.

The verdict was given by a single bench of Justice Sameer Jain.

Chandrashekhar Azad had filed a petition in Allahabad High Court against the trial court’s decision.

On May 9, 2017, an FIR was lodged at the Kotwali Dehat police station in Saharanpur based on a case filed by a journalist, named Sudhir Kumar Gupta, against unknown people. Chandrashekhar Azad was also made an accused in the case for allegedly inciting violence and other crimes.

On March 10, 2025, ACJM Court of Saharanpur rejected Chandrashekhar Azad’s discharge application.
