A major security breach has surfaced at Amritsar Central Jail after prison authorities allegedly recovered narcotic substances, prohibited items and a mobile phone from a jail warder during a search operation. Police have registered a case against the warder and an undertrial inmate under the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act, while launching a detailed investigation into the suspected racket.

According to police, the recovery was made during the frisking of jail warder Robinpreet Singh while he was on duty inside the Central Jail at Fatehpur, Amritsar. Officials claimed that 79.40 grams of opium, 41.18 grams of a black narcotic substance, 93.32 grams of a white narcotic powder, 215 grams of tobacco, 205 intoxicant-laced papers and an Apple touchscreen mobile phone were seized from his possession.

During the preliminary investigation, the name of undertrial prisoner Rahul Kumar also emerged in connection with the case. Investigators suspect that the seized contraband may have been intended for distribution within the jail premises and are probing whether a larger network was involved in smuggling drugs and banned items into the prison.

Based on the findings, Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar has registered an FIR against both accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Prisons Act. Police said further investigation is underway to identify other individuals who may have played a role in the alleged operation.

Officials indicated that more arrests cannot be ruled out as investigators examine the source of the recovered contraband and the route through which it allegedly entered the high-security prison. The recovery has also raised fresh concerns over security arrangements inside the jail, prompting authorities to intensify scrutiny of prison operations.
