Major General clicks selfie, pilot shows victory sign after miraculously surviving Leh chopper crash, photo goes viral

Three Indian Army officers, including a major general, miraculously survived with minor injuries after their Cheetah helicopter crashed in the mountainous Tangste region near Leh.

The incident occurred on May 20 in the rugged high-terrain area in Tangste region when their chopper went down during routine operations.

Soon after the crash, Major General Sachin Mehta, GOC of the 3 Infantry Division, clicked a selfie, which has since gone viral on social media.

In the viral photo, the army officers are seen sitting on a rocky terrain near the wreckage of their mangled chopper.

One of the pilots can be seen flashing a victory sign while the third officer is also visible in the background.

Parts of the crashed chopper are also visible in the image. Another image shows the wreckage of the chopper in the barren mountainous region.

The other two officers have been identified as a lieutenant colonel and a major, who were piloting the single-engine Cheetah helicopter.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army ordered a formal Court of Inquiry to determine the exact cause behind the crash. Officials said investigators will examine all possible technical, operational, mechanical and environmental factors linked to the accident.
