In a bid to protect the democratic system and ensure the rights of voters, the Mahagathbandhan leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, will embark on the Voter Adhikar Yatra across Bihar. The yatra aims to raise awareness about the importance of voting rights and to counter those who have allegedly conspired to steal votes and undermine the democratic system.

“On August 17, we set out for the #VoterAdhikarYatra in Bihar, a direct fight to end Vote Chori once and for all. This is not just about elections. It is about defending our democracy, our Constitution, and the core principle of ‘One Person, One Vote’. We will not stop until every voter list in the country is clean and fair. Young people, workers, farmers, and every citizen – this is your call to rise and join a movement that belongs to all of us. This time, the Vote ‘Chors’ lose. The people win. The Constitution wins.”

The yatra will kick off with a mega launch rally in Sasaram on August 17 and will conclude with a Mega Voter Adhikar Rally in Patna on September 1.

The yatra will traverse through several districts in Bihar, including Gaya, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Pashchim Champaran, and will end in Arrah on August 30.

The rally assumes significance ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in the state. The opposition claims that the Special Intensive Revision(SIR) drive is being used selectively and disproportionately, targeting vulnerable sections of society, and potentially leading to large-scale voter list deletions.

The yatra aims to send a clear message to those who have allegedly worked to undermine the democratic system and to ensure that power stays with the ordinary people.

The leaders are expected to emphasise the importance of protecting the Constitution and democracy, and to urge people to exercise their voting rights to bring about change.

“To save our vote, our Constitution, our democracy… Those who have conspired to steal our vote and destroy our hard-fought democratic system will be punished by the people,” said Congress leader KC Venugopal, highlighting the importance of the yatra.

Both Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav are expected to address rallies and public meetings during the yatra, emphasising the need to protect democracy and voting. The Voter Adhikar Yatra is seen as a significant effort to mobilise people and raise awareness about the importance of voting rights and democracy. The yatra is expected to draw large crowds and generate widespread support for the Mahagathbandhan’s cause.
