YSRCP chief and former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday, May 21, slammed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and accused him of “misleading” people in the name of the Amaravati capital project for his “scams,” despite being aware that the project was unviable as basic infrastructure alone would cost ₹2 lakh crore.
While addressing a press conference at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, Reddy claimed that Naidu was creating “false impressions” about the capital city project. He further alleged that the Chief Minister was undermining the possibility of building a permanent capital, PTI reported.
“Despite knowing that the ₹2 lakh crore project cannot be implemented, Naidu is creating false impressions about the capital city for his scams and cheating people,” Reddy said.
Reddy further alleged that the claims of a self-financing capital had collapsed. He said that the TDP-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh had so far borrowed ₹47,387 crore for the greenfield capital city, besides earmarking ₹9,200 crore in the budget.
Moreover, Reddy has claimed that the state government was neglecting public welfare and indulging into “rampant corruption and loot”.
He added that they have turned the state into a “mafia kingdom” and “jungle raj.”
His remarks came about two years after the TDP-led coalition came to power in Andhra Pradesh, marking an end to Reddy’s tenure.
Reddy has claimed that people in the state have seen no tangible benefits during Naidu’s rule, which he claimed is continuing “indiscriminate corruption and loot”.
He even accused the Chief Minister of resorting to “diversionary politics”.
