Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, on Friday took part in the digital rollout of the Census of India 2027 by completing his self-enumeration registration at his residence in Delhi, highlighting the government’s emphasis on a fully digital and citizen-centric census process.

‎Describing the initiative as a major milestone, Birla said, “This national census truly marks the beginning of a new era. For the first time, the entire process is being conducted digitally, empowering every citizen with the ability and convenience to record their household details independently. It is a highly secure, accurate, and user-friendly process.”

‎The 2027 exercise signals a clear shift from conventional door-to-door enumeration carried out by officials. Under the new system, citizens can access the official portal and complete their self-enumeration at their convenience, a move expected to ease administrative challenges while enhancing accuracy and efficiency in data collection.

According to officials, the self-enumeration timeline will vary across States and Union Territories as part of a phased implementation plan aimed at ensuring smooth execution nationwide. Citizens have been encouraged to follow the schedule specific to their region and complete the process within the designated period.

Conducted every ten years, the census remains a vital tool for governance, shaping policy decisions, distribution of resources, and welfare initiatives. The upcoming round is particularly significant as the 2021 census was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

‎Urging citizens to actively engage in the process, Birla said, “I urge all fellow citizens to actively participate in this important national exercise; register your details, encourage others to do the same, and contribute towards the vision of ‘Janganna Se Jankalyan’ for building a strong and prosperous India.”

‎With a strong digital backbone, Census of India 2027 is poised to redefine large-scale data collection in the country, aligning with India’s broader push towards e-governance and increased citizen participation.
