The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday announced a significant rise in domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) output, stating that production has increased by 40%. Also, the central government has offered states and Union Territories an additional 10% allocation of commercial LPG. The move is aimed at strengthening supply and supporting a long-term shift from LPG to piped natural gas (PNG).
According to the Ministry, states that facilitate this transition will be eligible for the extra allocation. “The Government of India has offered all States/UTs an additional 10% allocation of commercial LPG, provided they can help in the long-term transition from LPG to PNG,” it said.

Inspections intensified to check irregularities
To address supply issues and curb malpractices, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have stepped up enforcement measures. Over 2,300 surprise inspections were carried out at LPG distributor points yesterday.
Additional inspections have also been conducted at LPG retail outlets and distributorships. The ministry urged citizens to rely only on official information and avoid rumours.

‘Crude availability adequate’
The government also reassured the public on fuel pricing and availability. Officials confirmed that there has been no increase in petrol and diesel prices so far.
“We have sufficient stocks of aviation turbine fuel, and no price increase has been made by the oil marketing companies,” the Ministry said.
It clarified that crude oil availability remains stable and refineries across the country are operating at full capacity, ensuring an uninterrupted fuel supply.
