Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his enthusiasm to work closely with Japan’s newly-elected and first female Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
“Heartiest congratulations, Sanae Takaichi, on your election as the Prime Minister of Japan. I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” he said in a post on X.
The India-Japan partnership is crucial for peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. “Our deepening ties are vital for peace, stability, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific and beyond,” PM Modi added.
Takaichi made history by becoming Japan’s first female prime minister, winning a parliamentary vote on Tuesday. With her election, Takaichi is set to lead a minority government and navigate complex diplomatic relationships, including with India.
Takaichi faces significant challenges, including addressing rising prices, boosting the economy, and strengthening Japan’s international relations. Her conservative views and nationalistic policies may shape Japan’s future, both domestically and internationally.
