In a striking show of support for people affected by the conflict in Iran, residents in Leh district continued their donation drive, where even a single egg was sold for Rs 25,000 during an auction.
The unusual bid became a symbol of solidarity rather than value, as locals said the effort was about sending a message and standing with those suffering far away.
Donation drives grow across Ladakh and Kashmir
The latest contribution is part of a wider campaign that has been gathering pace over the past few weeks. People in Leh and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir have been donating cash, jewellery, utensils and even livestock to help those impacted by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
According to ANI, residents have been organising regular collection drives. Children have broken open their piggy banks, while families have given away valuables, including gold and silver ornaments. In some places, bicycles and household items were also donated.
Similar scenes were reported earlier in Ramban’s Chanderkot area, where members of the Shia community gathered at an Imambara to offer aid. Women removed their jewellery, and even children contributed whatever they had.
In Budgam too, locals set up donation stalls and collected cash and precious items, saying it was their way of helping when they could not be physically present in the conflict zone.
‘It’s about sending a message’: Bidder
Speaking to ANI, local resident Shabir Hussain explained why he paid such a high amount for an everyday item.

He said the community is willing to do whatever it can to help the cause.
Iran thanks India for support
These gestures have drawn attention beyond India too. The Iranian Embassy recently thanked people for stepping up, saying their support in a tough time means a lot.
“We will never forget your kindness and humanity. Thank you, India,” the embassy said in a statement, acknowledging contributions from across regions, including Kashmir.
The donation drives come amid rising tensions in West Asia following a joint US-Israel strike on Iranian territory in late February, which triggered a strong response from Tehran and led to continued unrest.
