Lalu Prasad awaits verdict in third Fodder Scam case today

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court is likely to deliver its verdict in another fodder scam case on Wednesday in which jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav is an accused along with 56 others.

The particular case relates to the fraudulent of ₹33.67 crore from Chaibasa district treasury during 1992-93.

Along with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu, former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra’s fate too will be decided by the court of special CBI judge SS Prasad in Ranchi.

The RJD chief, is at present lodged in the Birsa Munda jail in Ranchi after being convicted on December 23 in a case pertaining to embezzlement of over Rs. 85 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994.

Mishra, who was Lalu’s co-accused in the Deoghar scam as well was let off along with six others while a total of 17 accused including Lalu were pronounced guilty.

The RJD chief has already been convicted in another fodder scam case that cost him his Lok Sabha seat and disqualified him from contesting elections.

In all, there were 34 accused in the case, out of which 11 died during the course of the trial, while one turned CBI approver and admitted the crime.

Prasad’s first conviction in yet another case of fodder scam in September, 2013 barred him for fighting elections for six years. Prasad is facing trial in a total of six fodder scam cases.
