A case has been registered against a lady constable, Minakshi, after the family members of Station In-Charge Arun Kumar Rai alleged her involvement in his death.
The complaint was submitted to the Superintendent of Police, demanding strict action.
According to the family, the constable had allegedly been blackmailing the officer for the past few days and was present inside the government quarters at Jalaun police station when the incident occurred late Friday night.
They claim she ran out of the room shouting that the officer had shot himself, after which chaos broke out inside the police station.
On Friday, Station In-Charge Arun Kumar Rai, posted at Kuthound police station, was found critically injured after sustaining a gunshot wound from his service pistol.
He was immediately taken to the medical college, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Senior officials, including the DM and SP, reached the spot, inspected the scene, and ensured the body was sent for post-mortem. The entire post-mortem procedure was videographed.
After the post-mortem on Saturday, the body was brought to the police lines, where Rai was given a Guard of Honour in the presence of senior police officials and colleagues. The body was then handed over to the family for the last rites.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police has assured Rai’s family that a fair, transparent, and unbiased investigation will be conducted to ascertain the exact sequence of events and determine responsibility, if any. The accused lady constable was also detained for questioning.
