The trauma care centre (TCC) of government-run Dharani Dhar Medical College and Hospital (DDMCH) in Keonjhar gave a new lease of life to a 10-year-old child, Kshirod Jamuda, after performing a complicated orthopedic surgical procedure successfully on Thursday.

Kshirod met with a road accident on 14 July evening near his village, and after first-aid treatment at Harichandrapur Community Health Centre, he was referred to the TCC of DDMCH.

On examination at DDMCH, he was found to have a low hemoglobin status, for which he was given the necessary treatment. After stabilisation, doctors decided on a trauma surgery.

A team of experts comprising Prof Ashok Kumar Nayak, Orthopaedics; Prof Debashis Swain, Anaesthesiology and Critical Care; Dr Ananta Narayan Patra; and Medical Superintendent Prof Mahendra Kumar Nayak conducted the surgery successfully.

After the surgical procedure, Kshirod is now under intensive care in a trauma ICU for 24-hour observation. The treating physicians expressed satisfaction over the clinical response of the child and expected his quick recovery. The faculty and staff of both the departments actively facilitated the process in a team spirit.

The TCC of DDMCH was set up under the joint aegis of the Health and Family Welfare Department and the District Mineral Fund of Keonjhar.
