Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Saturday visited the newly developed Triveni Ghat to review the progress of the 29.15-km-long ghat construction project being undertaken at a cost of Rs 778 crore to facilitate devotees during Simhastha-2028 in Ujjain.

The two leaders reviewed the construction works and directed officials to ensure the highest standards of quality and adherence to project timelines.

Chief Minister Dr Yadav said that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is continuously working to make Simhastha-2028 grand, divine and well-organised so that devotees arriving from across India and abroad can experience the magnificence of Sanatan culture.

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also inspected the Kanh Diversion Closed Duct Project. They descended into the tunnel section of the project to personally assess the quality and progress of the construction work.

Additional Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Rajora informed them that the primary objective of the project is to prevent polluted water from the Kanh River from entering the major ghats and pilgrimage sites along the Shipra River in the city, thereby ensuring that the Shipra remains clean and sacred.

He said a barrage is being constructed on the Kanh River at Jamalpura village in Ujjain district. The polluted water will be diverted through a closed-duct system and discharged 30.15 km downstream of the Gambhir Dam.

The official said the project is being implemented at a cost of Rs 919.94 crore. Its total length is 30.15 km, comprising 18.15 km of cut-and-cover duct and 12 km of tunnel. Four shafts have been constructed along the tunnel section to facilitate access, cleaning and maintenance. The D-shaped duct has been designed to carry a maximum discharge of 40 cusecs of polluted water.

The project has been designed keeping in view population growth over the next 25 years. Upon completion, provisions have been made for its operation and maintenance for a further 15 years.

At present, construction of the barrage is underway, while the head regulator has already been completed. Of the total 18.15-km cut-and-cover section, laying of precast segments has been completed over 4.50 km, while the remaining work is in progress. Precast segments suitable for installation have already been prepared for 10.30 km of the 18.15-km stretch.

Construction of all four shafts for the tunnel section has been completed. Of the total 12-km tunnel length, excavation work over 8.15 km has been completed, while excavation of the remaining section is progressing steadily.

Chief Minister Dr Yadav and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar held detailed discussions with officials associated with the project and instructed them to ensure both quality and timely completion of the works.
