Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the central government of orchestrating a “political vendetta” against the party’s top leadership, alleging that the ongoing legal proceedings are designed to harass political opponents.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Kharge claimed that the legal challenges facing the Gandhi family are baseless and lack merit, noting that no First Information Report (FIR) was filed in the initial stages of the proceedings. “They are doing this for political vendetta,” Kharge stated. “This case is only to trouble the Gandhi family… Our slogan is ‘Satyamev Jayate’ (Truth alone triumphs), and we welcome the judgment in the case.”
The Congress President’s remarks follow a Delhi court ruling refusing to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s money laundering charge against senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and five others in the National Herald case. Kharge views this as a vindication of the party’s stance, alleging that the ruling dispensation is utilising investigative agencies to stifle the opposition.
The case has been a contentious issue in Indian politics, with the Congress labelling the probe as “procedural tyranny” and alleging that the timing of summons and court filings coincides with major elections or parliamentary sessions. Kharge’s defiant tone signals the party’s strategy to turn legal hurdles into a rallying cry for “truth and justice.”
