Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by flash floods and incessant rainfall in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, and urged authorities to ensure speedy rescue, relief and rehabilitation for the affected families.
In a post on social media platform X, Kharge offered his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the disaster.
“I am deeply distressed by the tragic loss of lives and the devastation caused by the flash floods and incessant rains in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Poonch and Rajouri. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and the safety of all those affected,” he said.
The Congress chief called upon the Union Government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office to extend all necessary assistance and coordinate closely with the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure prompt rescue operations and comprehensive relief measures.
“I urge the Union Government, the LG office to provide all required assistance to the State Government and work in close coordination to ensure swift rescue, relief and rehabilitation for every affected family,” Kharge said.
Appealing to party leaders and workers to actively participate in relief efforts, he said, “I also appeal to all Congress leaders and workers to extend every possible assistance to the affected people during this difficult time.”
Kharge further demanded that the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy be provided adequate financial assistance without delay through the PM CARES Fund.
The appeal comes as heavy rains and flash floods have caused extensive damage in parts of the Jammu region, disrupting normal life, damaging infrastructure and affecting several families. Rescue and relief operations are underway in the worst-hit areas as authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to those impacted.
