Security agencies have stepped up monitoring in Delhi and Uttarakhand after an alleged threat indicating that Khalistani terrorists could target sensitive locations in the coming days, according to intelligence sources. The alert has flagged possible attacks on temples in both states, while government establishments, railway stations and police installations have also been identified as potential targets.
According to sources, the threat was conveyed through an email that reportedly mentioned several temples, government offices and political leaders as possible targets. Following the alert, Uttarakhand Police, intelligence agencies and Delhi Police have been placed on heightened vigil. Security arrangements at sensitive locations are being reviewed and strengthened as a precautionary measure.
Delhi Police has also launched an investigation into the email to verify its authenticity and trace its origin, sources said.
The latest warning comes after similar intelligence inputs in recent months. In January, around Republic Day, intelligence agencies had issued an alert over a possible attempt by proscribed Khalistani outfits and Bangladesh-based terror organisations to target New Delhi and several other cities across the country. Another alert was issued in February after inputs pointed towards a possible terror threat near the Red Fort area. Sources had then indicated that terrorists could target a temple in the Chandni Chowk area.
According to intelligence sources, key religious locations, including areas around the Red Fort and parts of Chandni Chowk, remained under watch due to concerns linked to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
