The parents of Siya Goyal, one of the accused in the alleged murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal, have publicly sought the strictest possible punishment for their daughter if investigators establish her role in the crime.
Their remarks came as Pune Rural Police claimed that Siya had conspired with co-accused Chetan Chaudhary to eliminate her fiancé because she did not want to go ahead with the marriage. Both accused remain in police custody until June 29 as the investigation continues.
Parents say family had no knowledge of alleged relationship
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Siya’s mother, Pooja Goyal, said the family never sensed that her daughter was unhappy with the arranged marriage and claimed they had no knowledge of Chetan Chaudhary before the case surfaced.
“If anyone is at fault, they should be given the harshest punishment. Even if it includes my daughter. If my daughter is found guilty, then she should be thrown from the same place where Ketan was thrown,” she said.

Pooja Goyal said both families had been preparing extensively for the wedding and described Ketan’s family as affectionate and supportive.
She said a wedding venue had been booked in Udaipur at a reported cost of Rs 3 crore, while the overall wedding expenditure was expected to reach around Rs 5 crore.
According to her, Siya never voiced any objection to the marriage and had remained in regular contact only with Ketan after their engagement.
“I don’t believe that she agreed to commit the crime, but if the investigation reveals she is guilty, then give her the harshest punishment,” she said.

Father backs legal action if daughter found guilty
Siya’s father, Pravin Goyal, also said the family would support the strongest legal action against whoever was responsible for Ketan’s death, even if it involved his own daughter.
“Whoever did this should receive the harshest punishment. Just like the fort from which our Ketan fell, whoever is found guilty, even if it’s my own daughter, should be pushed from there,” he said.
Pravin Goyal maintained that the family was unaware of any relationship between Siya and Chetan Chaudhary.
He described his daughter as a simple 19-year-old and said he had never met or spoken to Chetan. He added that the family had “lost a son and a wonderful relationship” and said the investigation should determine responsibility before punishment is decided.
Police allege conspiracy before killing
According to Pune Rural Police, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary first met during a Diwali party last year and later developed a close relationship.
Investigators claim the two stayed in regular contact over the past several months and allegedly discussed plans to kill Ketan Agarwal.
Police suspect Siya wanted more time for herself and did not wish to proceed with the marriage despite pressure from her family. Investigators further allege that although she had grown close to Chetan, she was also unwilling to marry him at present and instead wanted to continue the relationship after eliminating Ketan.
The probe has also revealed that Ketan and Siya visited Lohagad Fort on May 31, where investigators believe Siya first contemplated killing him after noticing him sitting near the edge of the fort.
Police have also alleged that an earlier attempt was made on June 14 when Siya allegedly tried to push Ketan off the fort. After the attempt failed, investigators claim she shouted about spotting a snake and later described the incident as accidental.
Victim’s family seeks justice
Ketan Agarwal’s uncle, Vijay Agarwal, said the family was waiting for justice through the legal process.
“We want justice. The search is ongoing, and we have been told it continues, but we have no further information. My son was 26, well-educated. Listening to his parents, he agreed to an arranged marriage, and he was killed. Who said what, I do not know. I only believe in our country’s law,” he said.
Both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary are in seven-day police custody until June 29. The investigation is continuing.
