The Kerala unit of Congress on Wednesday approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) with a complaint of violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) against the LDF government in the state.
In a letter to Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rathan U Kelkar, Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly V D Satheesan urged the poll panel to immediately intervene in the matter and take down hoardings and advertisements celebrating the achievements of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government from public spaces.
Despite the MCC, Satheesan said the hoardings and advertisements highlighting the government’s achievements and schemes are prominently displayed across Kerala. “The continued presence of these advertisements creates an “uneven playing field and has the potential to influence voters, thereby compromising the fairness of the electoral process,” Satheesan said in his letter to the Electoral Officer.
He urged the ECI to take immediate action to remove all such advertisements from public spaces, including KSRTC buses, and to initiate appropriate proceedings against those responsible for the violation. Satheesan also called for strict monitoring mechanisms to prevent further breaches.
