The Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the Central government and the Consul General, India-UAE Embassy, to take necessary steps  for the repatriation of Vipanchika Maniyan’s mortal remains to India.

The 32-year-old woman was found hanging along with her one-year-old daughter in their residence in UAE’s Sharjah on Tuesday night

Vipanchika’s maternal aunt had approached the Court seeking diplomatic intervention in the matter.

A single bench of Justice N. Nagaresh on Tuesday impleaded Vipanchika’s husband as an additional respondent in the case. He  informed the court  that following a mediation at the Embassy in Sharjah, it was decided that her mortal remains can be brought back to India and rituals can be completed by her maternal aunt. However, the daughter’s remains will be buried by him in Sharjah.

Recording  these submissions , the court  said that the issues are almost sought consensually and no further orders are required in the case. As such, the plea has been closed.

Vipanchika’s maternal aunt, in her  plea alleged that Vipanchika was subjected to constant mental harassment, emotional abuse and threats at the hands of her husband and his family members.
The plea also sought to ensure transparency in investigation, proper post-mortem examination and medico-legal procedures of the deceased,as the petitioner apprehends tampering and destruction of material evidence surrounding Vipanchika’s mysterious death.

It has been reported that during the discussion held at the Indian Consulate the other day, it was decided to bring Vipanchika’s body back to the country and bury her daughter Vaibhavi’s body in the UAE.Vipanchika’s family agreed to the request of her husband’s family to bury the child in Sharjah. The decision was also made to avoid the funeral being delayed indefinitely due to a dispute.
